SMRC Launches Aging Well with HIV Program

SMRC Launches Aging Well with HIV Program

(October 14 2024)   SMRC is pleased to announce a new program for older people living with HIV.  The Aging Well with HIV workshop (AWHIV) is adapted from the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) and the Positive Self-Management Program (PSMP).  The PSMP served us for many years, beginning at the height of the AIDS pandemic, but HIV is now a chronic disease and people are living longer lives with the virus.  Aging with any chronic condition can be challenging, but HIV presents some unique issues, especially for people with additional chronic conditions. The AWHIV addresses those issues.

You can register now for our first CDSMP to AWHIV cross-training on November 13th; just go to our training calendar to enroll. Only active CDSMP Master Trainers and Leaders are eligible, although Leaders may attend only on a space-available basis. Sponsoring organizations must be licensed for SMRC programs.  Because the AWHIV Program is substantially different than the PSMP, PSMP Trainers and Leaders must take the cross-training to gain certification in AWHIV.  SMRC will not offer update training for PSMP Trainers.

Materials for the workshop are the Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions 5th Edition, along with a new supplemental booklet, Aging Well with HIV.  Materials are available now from Bull Publishing in print and electronic formats.
